Sophatar Digital Signage Service, Sophatar® POS Signage™ added to Star Cloud Services

Easy and affordable solution for in-store digital signage

Somerset, NJ – January 4, 2017- Star Micronics is proud to announce that Star Cloud Services has added another great benefit to its long list of value-added services: Sophatar® POS Signage. Star Micronics, together with Sophatar, launch this brand new digital signage service for all Star Cloud Services members. Star Micronics customers can sign-up for this monthly service currently available on the Star Cloud Services dashboard. The service automatically creates in-store digital signage with product recommendations based on the line items of your Star printer receipts.

This monthly service brought to you by Sophatar is available at a low-cost but adds key business solutions that would normally require a long-term contract with expensive upfront costs. With a month to month subscription and a choice of hardware priced in a variety of ranges to meet any budget, this digital signage solution is affordable and cost-effective. Automatic content updates are included with the service resulting in a ‘set & forget’ operation, so your signage doesn’t go stale over time as with other solutions based on a static playlist. If retailers do not have pictures of their products or services, the solution’s engine will automatically retrieve images based on UPC codes and textual descriptions. Content on the signage continuously updates through a networked media player by using a data feed from the retailer’s printed sales receipts already stored through the Star Micronics printer and the Star Cloud.

This solution also allows retailers to display the store’s social media content, such as tweets and Instagram posts, when connecting social media feeds in the Sophatar web console. So when a special is promoted through social media, it will appear on the retailer’s in-store signage as well.

This revolutionary solution will empower retailers to boost in-store sales revenue simply from advertising the great products sold in your store while customers shop!

This new Star Cloud Service is just one of the added benefits to Star printers. Look for more services in the next year. For more information about Sophatar® POS Signage, visit Star Cloud Services’ website or Sophatar’s website.

Sophatar POS Signage will be on display at the National Retail Federation’s Big Show, January 14-16 2018, Javits Center, New York, at Star booth #2745 and Sophatar booth #1012.

Why Restaurants are Cashing in on Self-Checkouts

Self-checkouts in your restaurant can increase the average ticket size, improve order accuracy, and increase customer satisfaction.

It’s the holiday shopping season, which means that malls and stores are packed with customers. After fighting crowds, shoppers don’t want to wait on long lines at your restaurant, holding bags and tired children, wasting precious shopping time. Instead, quick-service restaurants can facilitate the ordering process with self-checkouts that move lines quicker, increase the average ticket size, improve order accuracy and serve customers faster.

Movie theaters, banks, hotels and other venues are giving their customers control over the purchasing process with kiosks. Consumers are accustomed to using ATMs, automatic ticketing, and self-check-out at hotels — and they may prefer self-checkouts in your restaurant as well. A report from iVend Retail found nearly 40% of consumers felt customer experiences could be improved by kiosks.

Kiosks are typically easy to use and engage people while they are placing an order at your quick service restaurant. Not convinced? Here are four reasons why you should be:

  1. Line busting capability.

A restaurant kiosk is a cost-effective, line busting solution that puts your customers in control of the ordering process. These kiosks help ensure shorter lines, less waiting and a more pleasant experience for shoppers, diners, and employees. It’s recommended that the restaurant have staff ready to assist people at the kiosks for the first several weeks after they go live. Additionally, self-checkouts give cardholders another layer of protection. Payments are processed by the patrons themselves and their credit cards never leave their hands.

  1. Expedited orders.

Restaurant kiosks cut out virtually all the waiting to place an order. More kiosks to order from means that orders are going to come in fast and furious, especially during the busiest shifts. During these busiest of times, your staff can focus on food preparation, keeping the dining room clean, and turning tables, creating a more efficient, customer-friendly operation.

  1. Promotions and upselling.

Fast-food giant McDonald’s reported that its average check size went up 30 percent after implementing self-checkouts. Upselling guests on drinks, sides, desserts or appetizers takes some training and skill. Even the best upsellers may not remember to make suggestions to every customer, but a kiosk will upsell/cross-sell on every screen and every transaction, without fail. This gives diners the opportunity to try extras they may not have otherwise ordered.

  1. Improved order accuracy.

When customers enter their orders into the restaurant kiosk, orders are transmitted to the kitchen immediately so staff can begin preparing them. This eliminates unreadable, hand-written tickets that are run back to the kitchen and deciphered by staff, or inputting handwritten orders into a workstation, which are invitations to make mistakes. Remaking meals that were prepared incorrectly is frustrating for your staff and a waste of time, energy, and resources. Taking orders on a self-checkout can save staff time and money by reducing the number of forgotten orders, errors and resources spent remaking food or drinks that were improperly inputted into the POS system.

Implementing self-checkouts at quick-service restaurants can increase the average check size, reduce wait times and increase customer satisfaction. These kiosks encourage larger orders by giving customers extra time to look through the menu and automatically suggesting combinations and upsells. People love to control the ordering process, so instituting this technology will build brand loyalty and help turn first time diners in high-value, repeat customers.

Having the perfect products for your kiosk is key to a successful checkout process. Star Micronics along with Mobile Bytes can offer all that you would need. Line busting is simple with the high speed of Star's TSP100III. Expedited ordering is easily handled by Mobile Bytes online ordering app. Star Micronics can offer you promotional support with Engage Now and Receipt Flip. You can rely on the accuracy of the TSP100III as well. Using Star Micronics printer and Mobile Bytes solution you have everything you need in the perfect POS system.

Star Micronics Teams Up with eMobilePOS to Offer Cloud Printing With Its Mobile ‘Order-Ahead’ Solution

Tupyx mobile ‘Order-Ahead’ application enables restaurants and venue operators to grow sales and tap into a hot market while streamlining food preparation with cloud printing of mobile order tickets on certified Star printers

SOMERSET, NJ. —Nov. 6, 2017 — Star Micronics, a leading manufacturer of mobile, Point of Sale (POS), and a customer engagement technologies, today announced it has teamed up with e-Nabler Corp., developer of the award-winning eMobilePOS® suite of point-of-sale solutions to offer intelligent cloud printing for orders submitted via e-Nabler’s mobile ‘Order-Ahead’ and stored value app TupyxSM. The solution will be premiering at IAAPA Attractions Expo (booth #3157) in Orlando, November 14-17.

The innovative cloud printing service enables Tupyx mobile orders to be printed directly on dedicated Star Micronics kitchen printers at various food and beverage prep stations, etc. The technology frees up counter space, as there is no need for additional tablets or computers in order to manage the notification and flow of orders. Additionally, Tupyx can be interfaced with eMobilePOS or virtually any POS thus eliminating the need for double data entry resulting in seamless integration of mobile orders with the regular order flow.

“Tupyx paired with the simplicity of the Star Micronics’ cloud printing technology is a powerful yet affordable solution that enables restaurants to offer the convenience of mobile ordering while streamlining the order process and staying organized in the kitchen,” says Christophe Naasz of Star Micronics. “Staff can simply just fulfill and stage the next printed order for delivery or pickup instead of trying to figure out and prioritize between different order flows.

“By partnering with Star Micronics, we can now offer a completely seamless order process for pick-up or delivery at home, office, or in-seat at a venue, and the order process is fully integrated with all the other order flows,” says Joel Vazquez, president of e-Nabler.  “The Tupyx mobile “Order-Ahead” App enables restaurants and venue operators to tap into the quickly growing mobile commerce market and customers spend much less time waiting in line or, no time at all, as the orders may also be queued up for delivery.”

Star Micronics adds CloudPRNT Support for TSP700II, TSP800II, and SP700 Printers

Somerset, NJ – June 26, 2017 – Star Micronics, leading provider of point of sale and proof of transaction technology, is proud to announce that they have added CloudPRNT support for their TSP700II and TSP800II thermal printers and SP700 impact printer. These Star printers will retrieve and print orders from any online ordering service integrating Star’s communication protocol.

Star’s CloudPRNT technology provides benefits to both restaurants and retail stores alike by eliminating the need for an extra tablet to send an online order to the printer. Instead, the ordering service will be able to communicate directly to the printer.

Star’s TSP700II label and receipt printer will allow pizzerias or coffee shops to accept and print an online order receipt or label to stick directly on the pizza box or coffee cup for take-out or delivery orders. For industries outside of food service, the TSP800II wide-format (4” wide) thermal printer will allow delivery services to print labels on the go directly through the cloud from a smartphone or mobile device.

Finally, the SP700 is Star’s most durable printing solution for kitchens. It is designed specifically to work in environments where heat and humidity can erode the type on the kitchen order. Paired with Star’s CloudPRNT communication protocol, restaurants can receive and print online orders directly to the SP700 kitchen printer to be prepared for pick-up or delivery.

These CloudPRNT supported printers also offer an intelligent interface to support POS functionality along with the online order system. The TSP700IIcloudPRNT and TSP800IIcloudPRNT are also compatible with Star Cloud Services, allowing users to offer their customers digital receipts through the AllReceipts™ app, and to engage with their customers for free.

Why Bluetooth Low Energy is the Best Option for Mobile Printing

People most commonly think of Bluetooth as the wireless technology that allows them to connect a mobile device to a car or an earpiece. Bluetooth has given rise, however, to a newer generation of wireless technology – Bluetooth low energy (BLE) – which was first introduced in 2011. Today, BLE is the best option for mobile printing and other devices that require short bursts of connectivity.

In order to understand why BLE is perfect for all mobile printing needs, it’s important to know the difference between Bluetooth and BLE. Bluetooth connectivity is designed for devices like wireless headsets and speakers, mobile phones, and is ideal for streaming applications such as Pandora or Netflix. In comparison, Bluetooth low energy (also known as Bluetooth 4.0) is exactly what its name says: low power consumption wireless technology.

BLE for mobile 2

How does BLE work?

Bluetooth and BLE both operate on the same 2.4 GHz ISM band. Unlike regular Bluetooth that uses a lot of power, BLE stays in sleep mode until a connection is initiated with a mobile device. The connections are short bursts because the data is traded quickly. Bluetooth low energy devices’ energy consumption levels are so low; one device can run on the same battery for years. Obviously, Bluetooth low energy isn’t going to work for Netflix, but its’ perfect for devices that only need to exchange data quickly and intermittently, like a mobile printer.

Who can use BLE devices?

BLE is perfect for devices that don’t need to stream large amounts of data continuously. This universal-low power wireless standard makes it easy to connect any product to a smartphone or tablet. BLE is the wireless technology used for personal fitness devices (like Fit Bits), as well as for monitoring sensors and mobile printers in taxi, rideshare, and delivery applications.

Where can you use them?

Bluetooth low energy mobile printers are small and light, and can easily be carried by servers in restaurants, delivery drivers, and workers in intermodal facilities and warehouses. They can be used to print invoices, labels, receipts, and other documents.

Star Micronics has several BLE-enabled printers ranging from compact models that measure only a few inches and fit into a pocket or apron, to more robust options all at affordable price points. Star’s mobile printers are perfect for indoor/outdoor use, field service and restaurant environments where they could get wet or dropped. These devices also come with an external power cable so they can be charged anytime, anywhere, even on the road.

Easy to use, even for BYOD workplaces

BLE printers are compatible with a large installed base of mobile phones, tablets, and computers. Star’s line of mobile printers is easy to use with any Apple iPad® or iPhone® BLE device and doesn’t require pairing. There’s no limit on the number of devices that can be connected to the mobile printers, making it the ideal solution for a BYOD (bring your own device) workplace. Employees don’t need to hunt for “their” tablet or mobile device; they can grab any equipment to complete the task at hand. Star’s mobile printers are also compatible with other operating systems, including Windows and Android.

BLE connectivity is the perfect option for mobile printing. These compact mobile printers are energy efficient and cost-effective for restaurants, rail yards, airports, and delivery services that need to print on-the-go receipts, labels, and create invoices. Vittorio Menswear and Tuxedo Increases Customer Satisfaction with Star Micronics and AllReceipts™

17240119_1086728761472542_291794059779208975_o

Vittorio Menswear and Tuxedo, located in Rochester, NY, provides ready to wear full custom options, to personalized looks that helps to express individuality. For over 45 years, Vittorio Menswear and Tuxedo has been helping Rochester look good, one tuxedo at a time. The formerly family-owned business was passed along to Matthew McDermott who has been working to grow the business by increasing customer loyalty and creating a more seamless sale.

After acquiring Vittorio Menswear and Tuxedo about five years ago, Matthew decided that it was time for a technology upgrade in the point of sale system. Vittorio was in need of a better system to track customer data and analytics, and customer-facing technology that allowed them to engage with and provide value-added services to their shoppers. Lightspeed POS solution with Thirdshelf and Star Cloud Services loyalty, along with Star Micronics peripherals provided the perfect system for Vittorio Menswear and Tuxedo.

Star Micronics’ TSP100 receipt printer with Lightspeed POS allowed Vittorio to improve the daily workflow of their business and keep their customers more satisfied with their service than  ever. These technologies provided detailed analytics and customer data that allowed them to compete with large retailers. Vittorio was now able to give every one of their customers a personalized experience, and offer suggestions and promotions based on the customer’s previous purchases and rentals. With Lightspeed’s inventory management, Vittorio could easily see what sizes were readily available versus what needed to be special ordered for customers.

As a result, Vittorio Menswear and Tuxedo improved their overall customer engagement strategy with Thirdshelf and Lightspeed POS. They are now able to access customer data and purchase histories almost instantly, which helps to tailor special promotions and increase customer satisfaction.

Star Cloud Services’ Receipt Flip feature allows Vittorio to easily summarize their return policy and add marketing touches right on the back of the digital receipt without any additional promotional costs to print. The Instant Customer Survey allowed Vittorio to better understand what their customers enjoyed about their experience versus where they needed to improve.

“Star MiSCS certifiedcronics and Lightspeed’s point of sale solution was well worth our initial investment. Since we installed the system, we’ve continued to add layers such as Thirdshelf loyalty features and Star Cloud Services digital receipts to improve our store functionality and to keep our customers satisfied. By having customer data and feedback readily available through Star Cloud Services, we can make adjustments to ensure that our customers are getting the most out of their experience with us.”

Solutions for Printing from Web Browser-Based Applications: WebPRNT

Screen Shot 2016-05-02 at 10.57.56 AM

Receipt technology has advanced dramatically in the last several years. Previously, in every transaction, a customer would pay for their purchases at the POS terminal and accept a printed sales receipt as a proof of purchase in case they needed to make a return or exchange. Mobility, however, has revolutionized POS and changed the process of providing a customer with a receipt.

Star Micronics has developed a variety of printing solutions for mPOS, including two that facilitate receipt printing from Web-based applications via HTTP(s) and from a project on an Android device or iOS hardware such as iPad®, iPhone®, or iPod touch®. These solutions, WebPRNT and PassPRNT solve common problems merchant often encounter with mobile printing.

Print from a Web Browser-Based Application with WebPRNT

WebPRNT, which enables device-agnostic receipt printing technology, supports HTTP(s) requests used in Wed-based applications. It facilitates printing on any Star Micronics WebPRNT-enabled printer – including receipt, label, and kitchen printers – from any local device running a Web-based application.

This low cost, versatile solution to printing from Web browser-based applications allows users to print high-quality POS receipts with professional, crisp graphics on Star’s line of WebPRNT-compatible printers.

How It Works:

You can use any device you want when you download WebPRNT, so businesses can eliminate the need to spend money on upgrading their current hardware. This solution enables local printing from a device with a browser to a compatible WebPRNT printer (desktop or mobile) on the same network.

WebPRNT is easy to read, maintain, and modify for developers. It works with XML tags or a JavaScript software development kit (SDK) that is integrated into the Web application’s code. This functionality can be extended to Bluetooth printers by using the WebPRNT Browser with no changes to the Web code. In addition to Web-based applications, Star’s WebPRNT also supports HTTP(s) requests from native applications.

One advantage of integrating WebPRNT is that the application the engineer or developer creates can give a retailer more complete control of printing, such as the ability to adjust the formatting, operate the cash drawer, or check the status of the printer. It also enables additional, innovative features to be added to the print application including digital receipts and other cloud services.

WebPRNT technology is available with several of Star Micronics’ printers including the TSP650II WebPRNT, SP700 WebPRNT, TSP700II WebPRNT, TSP800II WebPRNT, as well as any of Star’s Bluetooth printers using WebPRNT Browser.

Why Choose WebPRNT:

  • Easy to use. WebPRNT eliminates time spent downloading software and installing drivers. The app enables printing from any local device hosting a Web-based application (e.g., Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, and Safari) to a Star WebPRNT-enabled receipt printer.
  • Affordable. WebPRNT enables printing from any application or operating platform without the need for expensive, multi-platform development costs.
  • Compatible. WebPRNT allows users to print from their application to a WebPRNT-enabled receipt printer from any device, regardless of its operating platform.
