Revolutionary
Thermal Printer Designed for Today’s POS Needs
Introduced by Star Micronics America
|
| |
| - First USB-only Thermal
Printer, TSP100 futurePRNT™ Shipped
with All Necessary Accessories to Create Industry’s
Only True Plug-and-Play POS Printer - Edison,
NJ – For Release September 15, 2005 – Star
Micronics America introduces the TSP100 futurePRNT, a
revolutionary thermal printer that has been specifically
designed to address the evolution in the Point of
Sale (POS) market. The TSP100 futurePRNT represents
a number of industry firsts, including serving as
the first USB-only printer and the first true “plug
and play” printer that is delivered with all
necessary accessories, including an internal power
supply, USB cable, wall and vertical mounts, driver
CD, sample paper, quick set-up guide, power switch
cover, and paper guide.
“The release of the TSP100 futurePRNT underscores
Star Micronics’ commitment to continue deploying
innovative products to the reseller channel. futurePRNT marks a new revolution for the reseller with its
ease of integration into virtually any software package,
providing all necessary accessories in the box at
the time of purchase, plus, offering the ease of
use and reliability that end users demand,” said
Michael Hanson, VP, Sales & Marketing, Star Micronics
America
The TSP100 futurePRNT significantly
simplifies the integration of a fast thermal printer
into any POS
system, creating numerous benefits for end users,
resellers, software developers, and retailers. With
the TSP100 futurePRNT, support calls are eliminated
and set up time is dramatically reduced. The result
is considerable savings in time and money for end
users and resellers.
Speed is a critical factor
in determining a POS thermal printer and Star has
addressed the
two most
important variables affecting print speed – the
interface and commands. As the first printer to offer
only USB, the TSP100 futurePRNT has
distinct data transfer benefits over printers with
Serial, Parallel
interfaces. The TSP100 futurePRNT is
also one of the few industry printers that is digitally
signed
by Microsoft, so there are no pop up windows warning
of potential computer problems when the installing
the driver.
Further enhancing the speed
of the TSP100 futurePRNT are new drivers. Extremely
powerful, the drivers
eliminate the need for emulation software and take
advantage of today’s computers with faster
microprocessors so that elaborate receipts with extensive
graphics can be printed at the same speed as conventional
receipts. The drivers include the graphics to be
printed after the data leaves the application and
before it reaches the printer. This is a dramatic
improvement over conventional printers that use complicated
software to load graphic into the firmware of the
printer.
The new process created by the TSP100 futurePRNT enables end users to use a receipt as a marketing
device, such as incorporating logos and coupons,
without losing print speed. An additional benefit
is that, because all graphics are stored in the computer
rather than in the printer, a virtual unlimited amount
of graphics can be stored.
Complementing the drivers
is intelligent software that brings “search” and “replace” functionality
to the TSP100 futurePRNT. With the software, which
is part of the driver package and included in the
package, retailers of any size can utilize the search
capability to replace incorrect information (phone
number, address, etc.) or add a graphic(s) specific
to the receipt being printed.
The ability of the TSP100 futurePRNT to print graphics so quickly has changed
the way print speed is evaluated.
Conventional specifications, such as inches per second
no longer apply. Rather, today’s POS printers
should be evaluated based upon receipts per minute
(RPM) and the TSP100 futurePRNT delivers an industry-best
25 RPM, regardless of the type of graphics used on
the receipt.
Counter space is another consideration that is addressed
with the TSP100 futurePRNT. Star has been able
to maintain a compact size with the TSP100 futurePRNT while also including the power supply in the standard
housing. Additionally, the TSP100 futurePRNT has
a flexible design that allows the printer to be
easily converted into a vertical station in applications
where space is at a premium. Because wall mounts
are included as a standard item, the TSP100 futurePRNT can be easily hung to create additional counter
space.
Despite all these advantages,
the TSP100 futurePRNT’s
price is comparable to a thermal printer with a Serial
port.

Brings Technology Cure to Medical Offices and Pharmacies |

-
The TSP800 Thermal Printer Eases the Pain in
the Prescription Writing & Reading
Process -
Edison, NJ (June 2004) -
Star Micronics America, Inc., announced today the
release of its prescription printer to automate the
prescription writing/reading process for both doctors’ offices
and pharmacies.
Star is one of the first printer manufacturers to
answer the call from the Medical and Pharmaceutical
Industries to automate the prescription process and
make it more efficient. Star Micronics has a dual
solution to print thermal prescriptions using its
TSP800 thermal printer. The TSP800 printer enables
doctors to print thermal prescriptions versus handwritten
prescriptions from a pad avoiding legibility errors.
Utilizing specialized and secured thermal prescription
paper, the prescriptions are printed using the latest
medical technology software on the market, resulting
in a secured legible script in seconds.
“Opportunities for Star’s TSP800 thermal
printer are endless. Medical offices and pharmacies
are among the latest industries to realize the fit
this compact printer provides in helping make daily
office tasks more efficient – especially the
prescription writing process,” said Michael
Hanson, vice president, sales and marketing, Star
Micronics America, Inc. “Combining the TSP800
with certified medical software solutions, enables
healthcare professionals to spend more time treating
patients and less time completing paper work.”
Local pharmacies will have the opportunity to use
the TSP800 for dual purposes. First, for pharmacies
that electronically receive prescriptions at the
pharmacy counter, the pharmacy will be able to provide
a printed record of the electronic prescription in
the exact format a handwritten prescription would
be personally received. Second, the TSP800 can also
be used as a standard point of sale (POS) printer
for retail transactions.
The TSP800 is the only printer
on the market that provides printing on 3” to 4.25” wide
paper at the speed of 150mm/second. The TSP800 is
a wide-format, two color ultra high speed, easy load
thermal printer. Its compact footprint is ideal for
offices and pharmacies with limited counter space.
The TSP800 features efficient “drop and load” paper
loading and does not require a ribbon, making paper
roll replacement simple. Standard interfaces for
the printer include: serial, parallel, USB and Ethernet.
Star Micronics' TSP800 has been certified as compatible
with Dr. Notes' clinical management systems software
and by Micro Format, manufacturer of secured prescription
pads and paper rolls. For more information on these
medical IT companies, visit www.drnotes.com and www.prescriptionpaper.com/star.html.
Star Micronics will be displaying
the TSP800 at the Medical Design and Device Show
(MD&M) at
the Jacob Javits Center in New York, June 15-17,
2004 in booth #2162. For more information on the
TSP800 for prescription solutions visit this

Solution Can Help Healthcare Providers Improve
Practice Efficiency and Better Care for Patients

Edison, NJ (June 2004) -
Star Micronics America announces that its TSP800
series of thermal printers is compatible with Dr.
Note’s Electronic Medical Records (EMR) software.
The TSP800/Dr. Notes solution can help medical
practices be more efficient, keep better patient
records, and ensure healthcare providers are in
compliance with CMS Evaluation and Management Levels
as well as HIPAA Federal Regulations.
Dr. Notes is a unique Windows–based product
designed for physicians, by physicians. The Dr.
Notes program is not only an electronic medical
record, it is a clinical management tool that measures
treatment outcomes and tracks patients with chronic
medical problems until resolved. Now being used
across the country by thousands of America’s
leading physicians and countless healthcare professionals,
Dr. Notes can save physicians about 6-8 hours per
week and increase revenues by nearly 30%.
“Dr. Notes technology allows healthcare
professionals to focus on their patients, instead
of wasting valuable hours performing administrative
duties,” said Neil Redmond, CIO of Dr. Notes. “Star’s
TSP800 printer complements our technology and has
become an integral factor in allowing physicians
to practice medicine, instead of management.”
The benefits of Dr. Notes can be fully realized with the TSP800 series.
As the only printer that provides printing on 3” to 4.25” wide
paper, the TSP800 can print full patient records more efficiently than
comparable printers. Another benefit of the TSP800 is its speed, as it
can print up to 150 mm/sec. A “Drop-in and Print” paper loading
feature and jam-proof automatic cutter make the TSP800 simple to operate
for office personnel.
“The TSP800 printer series is extremely
practical in a medical setting, combining its high
print speed and wide format with a very compact
footprint,” said Michael Hanson, vice president
sales and marketing for Star Micronics America. “Most
important, though, its reliability and ease of
use allows healthcare providers to focus on what
is most important – patient health and safety.”

Star
Micronics & POS Direct Combine to
Provide Mac™-based
Solutions for POS Systems
|
| |
- Reseller
Integrating Star TSP600 Printer into Mac-based
POS Business Solutions that Provide Benefits to
Retailers -
Edison, NJ (April 2004) -
Star Micronics America’s thermal printers
are being used by POS Direct as part of the business
solutions reseller’s Microsoft Retail Management
system, a Mac-based POS solution that is providing
retailers with improved return on investment. POS
Direct selected the TSP600, TSP700 and TSP800 because
they are the only Mac-compatible POS thermal printers,
and offers simple and unique “drop-in and
print” paper loading.
POS Direct customizes its Microsoft Retail Management
systems for its customers, which range from martial
arts studios to apple orchards. The TSP family
is integrated with a driver and appropriate application
software to create a POS solution that is more
reliable than most PC-based POS systems. The TSP’s
swappable interface and Mac OSX driver compatibility
made it the best choice for POS Direct’s
systems.
“The TSP600 printer is ideal for businesses
using Mac POS technology because it is the only
printer that can affordably combine printing functions,
such as receipts, reports, logos and even bar codes,
on a POS solution utilizing a Mac operating system,” said
Mike Hanson, vice president of sales and marketing
for Star Micronics America. “POS Direct is
somewhat unique in its development of Mac-based
solutions in a traditionally PC-dominated market
and we are happy to be able to be a part of a viable
solution.”
Employing the TSP600 within an application is quick and easy. All the user
has to do is select either the Star or ESC/POS command mode. This uncomplicated
solution enables Mac-based POS retail businesses to operate retail transactions
efficiently.
“ The TSP600 is the perfect blend of functionality and affordability,” said
POS Direct’s Tracey Hanson, “By combining its ease of use with its
low cost, it truly is the first thermal printer of its kind to offer so many
applications to the customer.”
The TSP600 is a high-speed thermal printer with
two-color printing support, drop-in and print paper
loading, LogoStore for internal graphics and coupon
storing capability, recessed cable connectors,
and either a tear bar or automatic cutter. In addition
to the Mac OSX driver, the TSP600 has drivers for
Windows 9x, 200, XP, Linux, OPOS, and JPOS. Star
has been able to design all these features into
a compact printer with a footprint of only 142Wx199Dx131H
(mm), so the TSP600 occupies little counter space.
Adding Star Micronics printers into POS solutions
affords businesses the advantage of using the latest
automated technologies. Fully unmanned POS terminals
can perform customer transactions, while tracking
a customer order, processing credit card transactions,
and even managing a store’s inventory. Most
important, they are time efficient, with a user-friendly
interface for customer convenience.

Star
Micronics TSP800 Printer Certification by TALtech
Creates Simple, Cost-effective Bar Code Solution |
| |
|
- Integration of TALtech’s Popular Bar
Code ActiveX Control into TSP800 Allows Thermal
Printers to Serve as Off-the-shelf Solution in
Most Conventional Bar Code Applications -
Edison, NJ (March 2004) -
Star Micronics America, Inc. announces that its TSP800
series of thermal printers has earned certification
from TALtech, one of the leading providers of bar
code developer’s tools. The certification allows
TALtech’s popular Bar Code ActiveX Control
and Bar Code DLLs to be integrated into Star Micronics’ TSP800
printers, creating an extremely simple, cost-effective
solution for printing bar codes in most conventional
applications, including database, packaging design,
document tracking, postal bar coding, and general
labeling.
“Our certification of Star Micronics’ TSP800
printers dispels the widely held misnomer that bar
code solutions are expensive and cumbersome. By using
our popular Bar Code ActiveX and Bar Code DLLs with
the TSP800, any organization can implement a bar
code program all by itself in about a day without
breaking the bank,” said Thomas Lutz, President
for TALtech.
Two of the most widely used bar code programs in
the industry, TALtech’s Bar Code ActiveX Control
and Bar Code DLLs create high quality bar codes based
upon Windows? metafile graphics technology, compared
to other technologies that utilize low-quality font
or bitmap technology. They provide complete and precise
control over all bar code dimensions, including narrow
bar width, bar height, narrow to wide bar ratio and
magnification factors. Bar width reduction and gain
are also fully supported for producing pre-press
output.
The software programs are a perfect complement to the TSP800 series, which
has wide print width, high resolution, and high print speed. Featuring
4.4-inch paper that is nearly 50% larger than conventional printers’ 3-inch
paper, the TSP800 is ideal for printing bar codes. Its 150 mm/second print
speed allows bar codes to be printed with maximum efficiently, while its
advanced driver technology and simple printer setup ease operation. Additionally,
the TSP800 has a very small footprint.
Combining these features with the TALtech bar code
software, Star Micronics can now offer an off-the-shelf
bar code solution for any organization. The TSP800
printers can be used in applications ranging from
shelf tags and warehousing to delivery orders and
food service.
About TALtech
TALtech is a leading provider of bar code software
development tools and data collection software. For

Printer Technology Helps CAM Commerce Solutions Meet
Evolving Needs of Specialty-Retail Shop Customers |
| |
Edison,
NJ - CAM Commerce Solutions, the largest
supplier of microcomputer-based inventory management
and point of sale (POS) solutions for small to
medium sized specialized retailers, discovered
that its customers were demanding more from their
POS printers. In a fast-paced industry where customer
satisfaction, loyalty and brand awareness are the
three keys to profits and longevity, CAM Commerce
relied on M-S Cash Drawer and Star Micronics America
to maintain those keys.
With 20 years in the industry and over 18,000
stores running CAM Commerce POS solutions, CAM
Commerce had experience on its side. So, when CAM
Commerce’s customers wanted additional features,
such as auto logo and gift certificate printing,
plus easy integration to their POS software from
their POS printers, the proven ability of M-S Cash
Drawer and Star Micronics America made the choice
easy.
M-S Cash Drawer supplied CAM Commerce with Star
Micronics’ TSP700, an ultra high-speed thermal
printer. The TSP700 thermal printer has a large
memory that can store up to seven different barcodes,
as well as multiple logos or coupons. Additionally,
the TSP700 has a high print speed of 180 mm/sec.
or 60 lines per second at 3 mm lines. Print resolution
is 203 dpi and printer reliability is 60 million
lines. The combination of high speed, resolution,
and memory allows receipts to be printed with logos
and bar codes, plus coupons or rebate certifications,
without increasing customer wait time.
CAM Commerce’s TSP700-based solutions offer end users output choices
previously unavailable from printers, as well as simple ways to enhance
and monitor their entire operation, including customer loyalty programs.
The solution also allows the retailer to decide when to turn on and off
specific features without reprogramming.
“The TSP700 offers a fast and easy integration
with CAM Commerce’s Retail STAR™ software.
It has rapidly become one of our primary products.
We see it aiding our ability to decrease our sales
cycle to the retail shops and improving their customers’ experience
once the solution is in place,” said Chester
Richie, vice president marketing, CAM Commerce
Solutions.
With the TSP700, shop owners can now customize
receipts with the TSP700 auto logo printing feature,
digitize gift certificates and coupons which can
be seamlessly tied to Retail STAR, CAM’s
customer relationship management software (CRM),

loyalty and awareness by allowing the customer
to have a constant reminder of the company - other
than the product that was purchased - and the company
to have a history of individual customers’ purchasing
trends. Analyzing these trends can bring the retailers
unlimited CRM and marketing potential.

powerful "end-to-end" inventory control
and commerce solution for traditional as well as
