How to manually setup a TSP100IIIW and assign an IP address

Introduction:

This application note shows how to manually setup the TSP100IIIW on a network and assign an IP Address with Windows, iOS and Android.

 

Supported Printers: TSP100IIIW.

Supported Interfaces: Wi-Fi

Supported Environments: iOS, Android, Windows 10 (32bit/64bit), Window 8.1 (32bit/64bit), Window 8.0 (32bit/64bit), Window 7 (32bit/64bit)

 

Connecting/Setting TSP100IIIW on Windows.

Check MAC and IP Addresses of printer. This is accomplished by pressing the feed button while turning the power on. Let go of the feed button once it starts to print.

Note: The SSID is “TSP100III-XXXXXX” (XXXXX indicated the last 6 digits of the Mac Address)

The IP Address can be found under “Current IP parameter Status” at the bottom of the sheet

 

Confirm the printer has a ready LED light of solid blue.

 

Open the Wi-Fi panel and connect to the printer.

NOTE: It will take some time (about 1 minute) until connection is confirmed.

 

Open a browser (E.G. Internet Explorer) and type the printers IP address (e.g. 169.254.1.1 or 192.168.10.1) into the address bar and the Web Configuration page will appear.

 

Locate the main menu on the left side and click on Login.

 

It will prompt for authentication so please type the following and click on Log In:

The default login and password:

Username: root Password: public

 

The following message will be displayed when using the default password. So, select OK to change the password or select cancel to not change the password.

NOTE: For security purposes, it is recommended to change the password when using the printer.

 

On the menu displayed on the left side of the setting screen:

  • Click on WLAN Settings
  • Enter SSID (your Wi-Fi name), Security, and Security Key (your Wi-Fi password)
  • Click on Submit

 

A screen where you can check and save the entered details will appear. Do Not Execute “Save” at this time and proceed to the next step.

 

On the menu displayed on the left side of the setting screen:

  • Click on IP Parameter
  • Select Static
  • Enter IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway
  • Click on Submit

On the menu displayed on the left side of the setting screen:

  • Click on Save
  • Select Save -> Configuration Printing -> Restart device
  • Click on Execute

 

When the printer setting is completed the printer will print out a self-test page. The connection is disconnected.

 

Congratulations! You have successfully assigned an IP Address to the TSP100IIIW on Windows.

 

 

Connecting/Setting TSP100IIIW on iOS/Android

Note: If the printer firmware is 1.6 or higher, an Android device can be used. If it is lower, an iOS device is required. To check firmware, power on the printer while holding the feed button and let go when it starts to print. The firmware is listed at the top of the first page that prints.

Check the MAC address of the printer. This is accomplished by pressing the feed button while turning the power on. Let go of the feed button once it starts to print.

On the iPad, go to Settings.

 

Select “Wi-Fi” and turn On.

Select the device (E.G. TSP100IIIW-XXXXXX) from the device list displayed on the very bottom.

A message will appear indicating that an internet connection cannot be made is displayed; tap “Join Anyways.”

NOTE: When connecting to the printer, you cannot connect to the internet.

The SSID is displayed when connected and a check is marked on the screen.

NOTE: It will take some time (about 1 minute) until the connection is confirmed.

Open a browser (e.g. Chrome or Safari) and type “192.168.10.1” into the address bar to access the TSP100III Network Utility.

Locate the main menu on the left side and click on “Login.”

If the main menu is not listed, click on the menu icon   displayed in the upper left corner of the window.

The device will prompt you for authentication. Please type the following and click on “Log In”: The default login and password:

    • Username: root
    • Password: public

The following message will be displayed when using the default password. Select “OK” to change the password or select “cancel” to not change the password.

NOTE: For security purposes, it is recommended to change the password when using the printer.

  • On the left-hand side menu:
  • Click on “WLAN Settings”
  • Select “Infrastructure Mode”
  • Enter SSID, *Security, and Security Key for the network you’re trying to connect the printer to:
    • SSID: This is the same as your Wi-Fi network name. You must enter the exact WiFi name (case- and character-sensitive)
    • *Security: Must match your router’s security settings
    • Security Key: This is the same as your Wi-Fi network password
  • Click on “Submit”

*NOTE (SECURITY): The router must be set for either: WPA/AES; WPA/TKIP; WPA2/AES; or WPA2/TKIP. The printer does not support WPA/WPA2 or AES/TKIP combo settings. Please contact your network administrator or router manufacturer if you have questions or concerns about these security settings.

  • Next, a screen where you can check and save the entered details will appear. Confirm all information is correct, and then click “Save” in the left-hand menu. On the menu displayed on the left side of the setting screen:
  • Click on “Save”
  • Select “Save -> Configuration printing -> Restart device”
  • Click on “Execute”

NOTE: If the printer doesn’t receive an IP address, reset the printer and click here to restart.

 

  • The printer should print the Current IP Parameters sheet containing the new IP address, Subnet mask and Default gateway
  • Open the network utility page with the new IP address gotten from the printout in a new tab
  • Click on login on the left-hand menu
  • In the left-hand menu:
  • Click on “IP Parameter”
  • Select “Static”
  • Enter the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway shown on the recent printout

 

Click on “Submit”

Next, a screen where you can check and save the entered details will appear. Confirm all information is correct, and then click “Save” in the left-hand menu.

  • On the menu displayed on the left side of the setting screen:
  • Click on “Save”
  • Select “Save -> Configuration printing -> Restart device”

When the printer settings have been successfully set, the printer will print out a self-test page.

 

Congratulations! You have successfully assigned an IP Address to the TSP100IIIW on iOS/Android.

 

 

Testing TSP100IIIW on the Utility App with iOS/Android

Go to the app store in your iOS or Android device, and search “TSP100III Utility.”

Once you open the app, you will see “Unselected State” flashing red. Tap that, and it will bring you to the next page.

Next, the Utility will search for the printer. Once you see the printer with the matching IP address, select it and hit “Apply.”

 

Next, you will be brought back to the original screen. You will now have multiple options. Select “Printer Test.”

 

 

Once you select “Printer Test,” the test will automatically print. This confirms that the printer is working with your iOS and Android device.
